Leading Edge Alliance - Tony Argiz of MBAF Recognized as 2006 outstanding CPA in public service

Miami- Tony Argiz, managing partner of Florida-based accounting firm Morrison, Brown, Argiz & Farra, LLP (MBAF), has been recognized as the 2006 Outstanding CPA in Public Service by the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants (FICPA).

The FICPA, Florida's premier professional organization representing the state's Certified Public Accountants, selected Argiz out of many qualified nominees for this honor because of his outstanding achievements in public service. Since 1984, the Outstanding CPA in Public Service Award is given out annually to one CPA who excels in his public service endeavors. In addition, the FICPA will nominate him for the national public service award, given by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).

"I find it especially rewarding to be recognized by the FICPA for my civic involvement and volunteer work," said Argiz. "It is a privilege for me to give back to a community that has given so much to me, and I hope to have the opportunity to continue my work in the community for many years to come."

Argiz learned the importance of charity at a very young age. At the age of nine, he fled Cuba and came to the US through Operation Pedro Pan. Throughout his career, Argiz has taken on leadership roles in many community service activities to give back to these and other civic organizations. In various capacities Argiz has served the Archbishop's Charity and Development Drive, United Way Miami-Dade County, Miami Dade College Foundation, Florida International University Foundation, Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart, Coconut Grove Cares and others. Additionally, in 2005 he garnered support of the firm to contribute $100,000 to FIU's College of Business Administration to support educational programs within the accounting field.
