MIAMI - June 28, 2005 - Hortensia Sampedro Hacker, director of marketing at the Florida-based accounting and management consulting firm Morrison, Brown, Argiz & Farra LLP (MBAF), has been named president of the Cintas Foundation. Designed to award annual fellowships to creative artists of Cuban lineage currently residing outside of Cuba, the Cintas Foundation encourages the development of Cuban artists in architecture, literature, music composition, and the visual arts.
"Through the Cintas Foundation we are able to cultivate the life and spirit of the exile Cuban artist, while raising the global awareness and strengthening the understanding of Cuban cultural achievements," said Hacker. "As president, it will be my mission to carry on the legacy left before me while launching a new website and increasing our outreach."
The Cintas Foundation was established in 1957 with funds from the estate of the late Oscar B. Cintas, a former Cuban ambassador to the United States, a prominent industrialist, and a patron of the arts. Most recently, the Cintas Foundation in partnership with the Emilio Sanchez Foundation, awarded both Christian Curiel and Amalia Zarranz $30,000 fellowships for their work in visual arts and film during a ceremony held at the Americas Society. The Cintas Fellowship program is administered by the Cintas Foundation Board and by the Institute of International Education, the nation's oldest and most active organization in the field of international education and cultural exchange.
As director of marketing for MBAF, Hacker is responsible for the development and implementation of the firm's marketing strategies across all practice areas.
