Miami - January 5, 2005 - Miguel Farra, CPA, JD, the partner in charge of the tax department of Morrison, Brown, Argiz & Farra, LLP (MBAF), the leading Florida-based accounting and management consulting firm, was recently honored with an Excellence in Accounting Award in the international tax category. The awards, which acknowledge distinction in the field of accounting services, are given annually by the South Florida Business Journal.
Farra leads the tax department at MBAF, where he oversees the firm's team of domestic and international tax professionals. A certified public accountant and an attorney, he has nearly three decades of experience in the areas of tax planning and compliance, mergers and acquisition, accounting and audit services for international and domestic businesses and individuals. His industry specializations include automotive retail and rentals, aviation, e-commerce technology, manufacturing, hospitality, real estate, and healthcare. In addition, Miguel is a respected forensic accountant and a valuable member of the firm's litigation support team.
Active in professional organizations, Farra is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Florida Institute of Public Accountants, the American Bar Association, the Florida Bar Association and the Florida Bar's Tax Section. He is a qualified expert with the United States Tax Court, Miami-Dade County Circuit Court, and the Broward County Circuit Court. In addition, Farra has authored numerous articles in various publications including various international and domestic tax journals.
Most recently, Farra was selected by presidential invitation to join the University of Miami President's Council, an advisory group consisting of some of the most prominent university alumni. Founded in 1993, the President's Council consists of more than 100 members across the nation who serve as corporate and community leaders. Nearly a dozen of these prestigious men and women have gone on to serve as members of the Board of Trustees. In addition, he has served on the boards of trustees for the Palmer School, Inc. and the Miami Museum of Science, Informed Families of Dade County and The U.S.-Cuba Democracy PAC. A dedicated child advocate, Farra was chairman of the Children's Foundation of Greater Miami and a member of the board of directors for the Children's Home Society of Florida, as well as president and treasurer of Dade Partners for Safe Neighborhoods. Farra holds a law degree and a bachelor's degree magna cum laude in business administration from the University of Miami.
