The 2008 hurricane season in Florida officially began on June 1, but auto dealerships and other businesses still have several weeks to complete their disaster preparedness plans before South Florida’s peak months for tropical activity.
Dealerships should not delay on preparations because the National
Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has forecast that this could be a very active year for hurricanes that could hit Florida and other Atlantic Coast and Gulf Coast states.
The NOAA in late May predicted there will be between 12 and 16 named storms in that region—including six to nine hurricanes. NOAA also predicted that as many as five hurricanes could be at least Category 3, with winds above 110 mph.
